SINGAPORE, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- A Center of Excellence for radar and integrated sensors has been officially inaugurated in Singapore by Thales.

The center -- in coordination with research institutes, industry and government -- aims to increase innovation in naval radar and integrated sensor development.

"This Center of Excellence paves the way to promising collaborative innovations in the field of radars and integrated sensors," said Jean-Noel Stock, chief executive officer of Thales Solutions Asia, Singapore.

Thales said the center will benefit Singapore by establishing an efficient platform for sharing skills, capabilities and knowledge; by speeding up development of solutions for high-end radar and sensor requirements; and by helping strengthen the technical skill sets of local engineers.

The center was inaugurated the Netherland's Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen.

Thales said the center is the result of close cooperation between Singapore and Thales' operation in the Netherlands.
