MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- LMI, a not-for-profit consulting company, is joining a working group studying the future of the U.S. national security industrial base.

The working group – called the 21st Century Defense Initiative -- is a project of the Brookings Institution, a think tank in Washington.

"We look forward to contributing our perspective to the Brookings community and the 21st Century Defense Initiative as this working group considers this critical juncture in our nation's national security," said LMI President and Chief Executive Officer Nelson M. Ford.

The 21st Century Defense Initiative brings together scholars and experts from industry and government to identify and study major policy questions related to the country's national security industrial base. On Thursday, the group is to meet on the U.S. defense budget and areas for reform.

"LMI attracts some of the most experienced and thoughtful individuals to develop solutions for the federal sector and we welcome their participation in this important project," said Michael E. O'Hanlon, director of research for the 21st Century Defense Initiative.
