LINKOPING, Sweden, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Autonomous underwater vehicle systems for anti-submarine warfare training have been ordered from Saab of Sweden by an unidentified customer.

The contract for the AUV62 systems, together with long-term maintenance and support services, is worth about $357.5 million and delivery of the systems ill take place in 2014 and 2015.

"We are very proud of the confidence our customers place in the AUV62 system and are satisfied to have been able to secure this order for the system." says Gorgen Johansson, senior vice president and head of Saab's Dynamics business unit.

The AUV62 is a state-of-the-art, artificial acoustic target that mimics a submarine in a way that is compatible with current torpedo and sonar systems, thus eliminating the need to use an actual submarine as a maneuvering training target.

The number of AUV62s to be delivered was not disclosed.

Saab said "the industry's nature is such that depending on circumstances concerning the product and customer, information regarding the customer will not be announced."
