MADRID, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Airbus Military of Spain says the Colombian Air Force has ordered a sixth twin-engine C295 aircraft for transport and humanitarian aid missions.
The cost of the aircraft and the schedule for its delivery were not disclosed. The date of the contract was not specifically detailed but the company indicated it was received in 2012.
"This second C295 order from Colombia in 2012 is deeply satisfying and confirms the C295´s excellent reputation with the Colombian Air Force," it said.
The C295, a turboprop, first took to the air in 1997. It has a maximum speed of 358 miles per hour, a range of 2,300 nautical miles with a 10.000 pound payload, and a service ceiling of 25,000 feet.
The Colombian Air Force currently operates four of the aircraft, with one still to be delivered under a previous contract in addition to the newly ordered transport, Airbus Military said.
In addition to the C295, Columbia operates six Airbus Military CN235-200s and six of the smaller C212.
Airbus Military said the new order brings the number of Airbus Military C295s ordered to 115, with 93 aircraft currently in service in 15 countries.
