LINKOPING, Sweden, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland Ltd says it has received $1.73 million in new orders for initial deliveries of its MAPAM mortar systems.
The identity of the customer or customers that signed two contracts for the systems last year was not disclosed. Neither were the quantities of weapons to be delivered this year.
The mortars systems are new MAPAM 60mm ER (extended range) mortars with proximity fuses and standard configuration 81mm mortars.
"This is a big milestone for MAPAM due to the fact that both types of MAPAM are completely new on the market," Mr. Kai Schlege, area sales manager and product manager for MAPAM.
"In the past only standard 60mm has been available," he said. "Now that SBDS has not only a new product with the 81mm but is also able to provide different configurations -- extended range, for both calibers -- a new market has been opened."
MAPAM is the acronym for Mortar Anti Personnel Anti Material.
