BURNABY, British Columbia, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Access control systems and software from Canada's Viscount Systems have been installed at U.S. government facilities in two states, the company said.

The Freedom access control systems installed include Freedom Encryption bridge technology as well as Viscount's new Freedom security user and card enrollment platform.

"We continue to make progress in making Freedom the new de facto standard for securing federal government facilities," said Stephen Pineau, president and chief executive officer of Viscount Systems.

"Following successful pilot projects that demonstrated our ability to save agencies up to 80 percent of the cost of traditional access control systems -- while providing significantly higher levels of security -- we are now moving to ongoing projects that are specifying Freedom as the required product."

Viscount said that unlike other access security system providers, it didn't rely on third-party software for its user and card enrollment program. The company instead worked with the government agencies to build specific functions into its core Freedom software platform. The move, it added, resulted in savings of more than 50 percent when compared to software from third party providers.

The names and locations of the facilities where the systems were installed weren't disclosed at the request of the agencies involved, the company said.
