MDA seeks advanced SDACS for missiles

SACRAMENTO, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Advanced Solid Divert and Attitude Control System technologies for the U.S. Standard Missile-3 Block IIB interceptor are being developed by Aerojet.

Aerojet, part of GenCorp Inc. of California, said development comes under a contract from the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.

"This development contract will advance SDACS technology to increase flight duration, mission flexibility and overall performance required for the SM-3 IIB missile, ultimately reducing technical risk for the future SM-3 IIB Missile Product Development Phase," Aerojet said.

"This SDACS Risk Reduction Technology Program is a key element of MDA's strategy for early demonstration of shipboard-compatible technologies for the SM-3 IIB missile that can be based on land or at sea."

The SM-3 Block IIB missile is a key component of Phase IV of the U.S. government's program to protect U.S. intercontinental ballistic missiles.
