MORRISTOWN, N.J., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A leading provider full life-cycle aircraft fuel services to the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency has been acquired by Berger Group Holdings Inc.

The terms of the financial transaction between Berger and Hawthorne Services Inc. weren't disclosed.

"The acquisition of Hawthorne Services is part of our strategy to grow our operations and maintenance platform," said Nicholas Masucci, chief executive officer of the Berger Group Holdings, a global engineering company.

"We continue to enhance our support for government operations and maintenance, transportation, fueling services, airfield operations, facilities services and specialized technical services."

Hawthorne Services has headquarters in South Carolina. It specializes in facility services and fueling operations at airfields and military bases in the southeastern United States.

"Given the current budgetary pressures across the government, the DLA-E (energy) is seeking more efficient, cost-effective ways to install fueling infrastructure, manage fuels and service aircraft and vehicles at Department of Defense installations," said Steve Townes, president of Louis Berger Services. "Hawthorne is well positioned to participate in that trend.

"The company has a $100 million backlog, and now has a very strong parent company for enhanced resourcing and increased competitive advantage."
