TEL AVIV, Israel, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Israeli and Indian companies have signed a memorandum of understanding for joint development of naval air defense systems.
Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. and Bharat Electronics Ltd. India signed the agreement for cooperation on Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile systems this month, a result of previous cooperation on manufacturing various subsystems for Indian military forces.
Under the MOU, BEL will be lead integrator and producer of major LRSAM subsystems. IAI will act as the design authority and produce subsystems as a main subcontractor of BEL.
"This MOU is a significant step forward in our joint work with India," IAI President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Weiss said. "Partnership with BEL will further enhance IAI's ability to provide high-quality solutions and service to Indian defense services, best supporting the needs of India.
"BEL is a strategic partner for IAI and we hope this cooperation will expand to other areas of mutual interest."
