Kaiser Aircraft making parts for UH-60s

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted Kaiser Aircraft Industries Inc. to manufacture parts for and perform other work on UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

The value of the award from the Army's Aviation Applied Technology Directorate wasn't disclosed. The contract is for a period of five years.

Work on the award will include the manufacturing and kitting -- as well as installing -- a transition door modification. As many as 800 kits are to be produced and 560 helicopters worked on.

"We look forward to working with the Army on our first major award with them as a prime contractor," said Ron Aramini, president and chief executive officer of Kaiser Aircraft Industries. "They recognize the skill level and dedication of our employees as well as the unique capabilities of our facility."

The work will be performed at the company's facility in Birmingham, Ala., where parts manufacturing and modifications are performed for aircraft such as C-130s and C-12s.
