TUCSON, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Raytheon's Paveway, a kit that transforms "dumb" bombs into guided munitions, is being supplied to an unidentified country under a $422 million contract.

Details as to the identity of the direct customer, the number of kits to be delivered and the expected delivery schedule weren't disclosed.

"Paveway has revolutionized tactical air-to-ground warfare by providing the warfighter unparalleled accuracy and standoff capability, proving itself in every major conflict in which it has been used," Raytheon Missile Systems President Taylor W. Lawrence said. "This contract further demonstrates Raytheon's long-standing commitment to its international customers."

Raytheon said newer versions of Paveway feature Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System guidance capabilities, combining the precision and flexibility of traditional laser-guided weapons with the all-weather capability of GPS guidance.

Paveway has been purchased by 43 customers worldwide, the company said, and accounted for more than half of air-to-ground precision-guided munitions dropped by U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
