Indian boats get Northrop navigation

NEW MALDEN, England, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- The Indian reseller of Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine products has won a contract to supply navigation equipment to India's coast guard.

The navigation systems to be supplied by Marine Electricals Ltd. include VisionMaster Total Watch multifunction displays, electronic chart displays and information systems, autopilots, magnetic compasses and the new NAVIGAT 3000 fiber-optic gyrocompass.

The contract includes spares, factory testing and engineering support services, with the first shipset to be delivered by the end of this year. The monetary value of the contract wasn't disclosed.

The navigation systems will be deployed on 20 new fast patrol boats.

"These integrated bridge system components will provide the Indian coast guard the most advanced shipboard navigation systems available today," said Alan Dix, managing director of Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine. "We look forward to delivering products that will help secure India's coastline for years to come."

Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine has headquarters in Britain.
