MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Alion Science and Technology has received a $6 million task order from the U.S. Army to support development and procurement of current and new weapons systems.

The research, engineering and development task order contract, in support of the Army's Project Manager Soldier Weapons program, is worth $6 million and has a period of performance through December 2014.

"This task order allows us to develop and rapidly deliver accelerated solutions for weapons systems, including integrated ammunition and associated target acquisition and fire-control products," said Chris Amos, senior vice president and manager of Alion's Technology Solutions Group. "This mission-critical work will support warfighter needs, giving our troops an edge in the battlespace."

Under the award Alion will conduct research and development in studies and analyses of capabilities and effectiveness -- as well as guidance -- for individual weapons and crew-served weapons for PM SW, a division within the Army's Program Executive Office Soldier. It will also provide program and acquisition support, logistics and materiel fielding planning.
