SAO PAULO, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- A consortium of Brazilian companies has been selected by the country's military for initial implementation of an integrated border system.

The system, known by its Portuguese-language acronym of Sisfron, will at first be implemented along Brazil's borders with Paraguay and Bolivia.

The Phase One award is worth about $404 million and was granted to Tepro, which is comprised of Savis Tecnologia e Sistemas S/A and OrbiSat Industria e Aerolevantamento S/A, both controlled by Embraer Defesa e Seguranca.

"We are qualified to provide efficient integrated technological solutions developed in Brazil," said Savis Tecnologia President Marcus Tollendal. "Our vision is to deliver Sisfron to the Brazilian army and, subsequently, to seek a global market for those solutions, generating highly specialized jobs in Brazil."

No details were provided on when Phase One would begin but Embraer said the Brazilian army's goal is to have the monitoring system stretch for more than 10,000 miles and covering 10 Brazilian states and international borders.
