The Tangier Declaration issued at the conclusion of the Euro-Med summit proposes a new global security strategy based on regional co-operation and the pooling of defense efforts.
Addressing regional African issues, the Tangier Declaration encouraged the Economic Community of West African States to assume leadership in resolving the crisis in Mali
The Tangier Declaration also urged the Arab League, the European Union and other international partners to support initiatives aimed at boosting Maghreb integration, Magharebia news agency reported.
A topic at the forum was rising regional violence, fueled by the influx of foreign weaponry in the Maghreb.
The weapons include armaments manufactured and exported by the Russian Federation's state armaments agency Rosoobornexport, as vast stockpiles of Russian made armaments smuggled from Libya in after the fall of the regime of Moammar Gadhafi have intensified conflicts in the region.
