
BANGALORE, India, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd reports it is inaugurating its new Strategic Electronics Factory for advanced avionics on Saturday.
The production facility, which is fully operational, is located at Kasaragod in Kerala and is producing Airborne Special Purpose Computers -- such as mission computers, display processors, radar computers – for upgrades for India's SU-30, LCA, and MiG-27 aircraft.
It is also slated to produce avionics for medium, multirole combat aircraft. Among the systems: automatic electronically scanned array radar, electronic warfare suites, communication and navigation systems.
"Avionics plays a major role in functioning of modern aircraft and contributes significantly to the value of an aircraft/ helicopter," said R.K. Tyagi, chairman of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. "Considering huge potential of Avionics systems in the coming years, a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for a variety of avionics has been established at Kasaragod. This will result in better operational effectiveness and improved customer satisfaction."
HAL said the facility is nearly 46,000 square feet.
