POMEZIA, Italy, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Israel's M-346 advanced trainer aircraft are to be fitted with Northrop Grumman's Attitude Heading Reference System, the company announced.

The LISA-200 AHRS to be supplied by Northrop Grumman Italia to Alenia Aermacchi, prime contractor for the aircraft, is a fiber-optic gyroscope system with a high-speed data refresh rate and output.

More than 4,000 units are in operation worldwide on a variety of rotor and fixed-wing aircraft.

"The LISA-200 is ideally suited to meet the rigorous standards set by the M-346, which is one of the world's most modern and advanced jet trainer systems," said Marco Clochiatti, managing director and general manager of Northrop Grumman Italia.

"This award builds on prior collaboration with Alenia Aermacchi through program such as the Eurofighter and exemplifies Northrop Grumman's navigation leadership in international markets."

The M-346 is a twin-turbofan lead-in fighter trainer with full digital flight controls and avionics.
