JAKARTA, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Indonesia's PT CMI Teknologi has successfully completed a production readiness review with Lockheed Martin for production surveillance radars.
The Lockheed Martin TPS-77 and the FPS-117 radars would be manufactured in-country if the companies are successful in their bid for the National Airspace Surveillance -- Republic of Indonesia program.
"The success of the production readiness review shows that CMI's workforce is ready to begin the assembly of radar row receivers, which is a major step in the qualification process," said James Gribbon, Asia Pacific regional president for Lockheed Martin.
"These are key assemblies in the solid-state design and L-band operation of these high-performing radars that are already operating in 25 countries around the world."
The NASRI program aims to improve air sovereignty and surveillance over the country's more than 17,000 islands and to simultaneously expand Indonesia's industrial capabilities.
The Lockheed Martin/CMI team hopes to produce more than 20 radar systems under the program.
PT CMI Teknologi is a privately owned technology company specializing in microwave design and manufacturing and holds contracts for the development and support of Indonesian military radar systems.
