Air Force orders more tactical radios

MELBOURNE, Fla., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has ordered more Falcon III manpack tactical radios from the Harris Corp. for use by combat controllers and other ground personnel.

The order is worth $10.8 million, the company said, but the exact number of units to be supplied and their delivery timeline weren't disclosed.

"The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G will provide Joint Terminal Attack Controllers and other Air Force personnel with enhanced real-time voice and data communications,'' said George Helm, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "This will lead to greater situational awareness, which is critical for forward-deployed combat controllers.

"Our radio is combat proven and widely fielded in support of the Department of Defense's emerging tactical network."

The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G is JTRS-Certified and connects warfighters to the Global Information Grid. The system's wideband supports network-enabled missions -- close-air support, precision fires and medical evacuation, for example -- through enhanced voice and data applications.
