MASSY, France, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- ThalesRaytheonSystems is providing the French air force with a ground radar facility and on-site engineering support for it.
The contract for the company's Ground Master 406 airspace surveillance radar base was issued by French defense procurement agency DGA but its monetary value wasn't disclosed.
The facility will be at the Nice Mont-Agel air base.
"We are delighted that the DGA has selected the Ground Master as the first new-generation radar to provide airspace protection in metropolitan France" said Philippe Duhamel, chief executive officer of ThalesRaytheonSystems' French Operations.
"With the Ground Master 406, France will benefit from superior detection performance at low and high altitudes, higher availability and simplified maintenance."
The GM 406 is a fully digital and mobile 3D air defense radars system for protection of key assets and forces through high and low altitude detection of threats such as unmanned aerial vehicles, missiles, mortars and rockets.
ThalesRaytheon said the radar will be integrated with the air defense network of the military's air command and control system. It will also be coupled with the NATO ACCS C2 centers and to French navy and army installations.
