FLORENCE, Italy, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Electro-optic observation and fire control panoramic sights are to be supplied to the armed forces of Malta by Selex Galileo of Italy.

The Janus Naval system is an aiming and anti-aircraft device featuring a stabilized multi-sensor turret that contains a day camera, an infrared night camera and a laser rangefinder to detect the distances of targets under observation.

Selex Galileo said it is an open-architecture system for rapid integration with a vessels' existing command-and-control systems.

"The Janus-N helps strengthen our customer's surveillance capabilities and improves the situational awareness of those who are called upon to make decisions," said Mauro Gori, Selex Galileo's senior vice president for Electro-optics, Land and Naval.

"I'm particularly proud of this achievement which demonstrates how competitive we are as a company, not just in the domestic Italian market but also in the international arena."

The sights will be installed on Malta's naval patrol boats.

The value of the contract and the delivery schedule for the two Janus-N systems weren't disclosed.
