HAIFA, Israel, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The Brazilian army tapped Elbit Systems' local subsidiary to produce and deliver 12.7/7.62mm Remote Controlled Weapon Stations.
The weapons station by Ares Aeroespacial e Defensa Ltda., called the REMAX, was specifically designed for the Brazilian army for use in its VBTP armored personnel carrier program but will also be deployed on other armored vehicles.
It is a stabilized system for 12.7/7.62mm machine guns.
The value of the two-year initial production contract to Ares is about $25 million, said Elbit, which is an Israeli company.
Elbit said the award is the second from the Brazilian military to one of its subsidiaries in the past month. AEL Sistemas S.A won a $15 million contract to supply the Brazilian army with unmanned turrets for armored vehicles.
