ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Medium-caliber tactical and training ammunition for the U.S. Air Force's A-10 Thunderbolt is to be produced by ATK under a new contract worth $32 million.

The ATK program for the 30mm PGU-13 and PGU-15 cannon rounds will be managed by the company's Armament Systems division in Minnesota, while their manufacturing will be conducted at ATK managed facilities at the Allegheny Ballistics Laboratory in West Virginia and New River Energetics facilities in Virginia.

"We are pleased that the Air Force has selected us to arm their A-10 crews," said Bruce DeWitt, vice president and general manager for ATK Armament Systems division. "Having produced more than 100 million medium-caliber rounds, we are confident that the Air Force will receive the highest quality and most reliable ammunition possible for use in combat and in training environments."

The PGU-13 is a high-explosive incendiary round for air-to-ground and close-air support missions.

ATK said delivery of the ammunition to the Air Fore is scheduled to begin in March of next year.
