YEOVIL, England, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The Thai army has signed a contract with AgustaWestland for two AW139 twin-engine helicopters, along with training and maintenance.
The aircraft will be delivered to Thailand in 2014 and will be used in transport and utility missions.
"It gives us great pleasure to sign this contract with the Royal Thai Army to support their transport requirements," said Vincenzo Alaimo, AgustaWestland's regional head. "We are confident this model, thanks to its unmatched performance, comfort and safety, has significant potential in Thailand in the future."
The AW139 has a cruise speed of 165 knots per hour, a range of more than 500 nautical miles and a flight endurance time of five hours. It can carry as many as 15 passengers.
The AW139 aircraft has been ordered by customers in more than 50 countries and AgustaWestland said these two aircraft are the first for Thailand, where the company hopes to expand business.
