MUNICH, Germany, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Germany's Carl Zeiss Optronics is joining Cassidian's Sensors and Electronic Warfare business unit following a change in stock holding.

Cassidian, a member of the EADS group, said it has acquired a 75.1 percent shareholding in the company from Carl Zeiss AG and that Carl Zeiss Optronics will conduct business under the name of Cassidian Optronics.

"Carl Zeiss Optronics represents a valuable addition to our existing capabilities in the field of sensors," said Cassidian Chief Executive Officer Bernhard Gerwert. "In coming years, this will enable us to offer complete sensor solutions to customers around the world, supplying everything required ourselves."

Cassidian and Carl Zeiss AG, which holds the remaining stock, said they expect the combination of market access and technical capabilities will lead to new business opportunities.

Cassidian's Sensors and Electronic Warfare business develops and manufactures optronic, optical and precision-engineered products for military and civil use through its facilities in Germany, France, Belgium and South Africa.
