Mexico requests FMS of Hercules aircraft

WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Mexico has asked the United States for two C-130J-30 Hercules aircraft through the Foreign Military Sales program.

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, in its notification of the possible FMS deal, said the aircraft would be used by Mexico primarily for presidential support but could also be used in law enforcement activities such as interdiction of drug trafficking.

As part of the $412 million sale, Mexico would also receive 10 AE2100D3 engines; aircraft modifications, government furnished equipment, communication systems; spare and repair parts: and support and test equipment.

Logistical and program and training support would also be provided for three years by the U.S. government and private contractors.

The prime contractor would be Lockheed Martin, company personnel as well as U.S. government personnel and representatives of Rolls-Royce would be assigned to Mexico to help it establish a supply system in support of flight operations.

"This proposed sale directly supports the Mexican government and serves the interests of the Mexican people and the United States," the agency said. "The proposed sale of these aircraft and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region."
