BAE joins Raytheon in DDR project

BURLINGTON, Mass., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- BAE Systems has been selected joined in the effort to develop the U.S. Air Force's Dismount Detection Radar system, which is to be fielded in 2014.

The Dismount Detection Radar system is a project led by Raytheon, which chose BAE for development of the system's radar command, control, processing, exploitation, dissemination and mission planning modules.

"Our Ground Moving Target Indicator's exploitation capability and integrated radar control technology enables the DDR to robustly find and track potential threats to warfighters, vehicles, and individuals in near real-time, day and night," said David Logan, vice president and general manager of Technology Solutions at BAE Systems.

"We look forward to working closely with our teammate Raytheon and the U.S. Air Force to quickly deliver this mission-enabling capability."

The Air Force says the system's deployable, mission-ready software will act as the operator interface with radar units.

"The dismount detection radar will help soldiers, intelligence analysts and commanders in the field make critical decisions," said Lt. Col. Ed Byrne, DDR project manager for the U.S. Air Force. "This innovative radar represents a true team effort between government and industry."
