ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has won a U.S. Army performance-based logistics support contract for infrared sensors used on Apache attack helicopters.
The award has a one-year base performance period and three one-year options. The first-year period is worth $111 million. The overall contract value if all options are exercised is $375 million.
The Apache's Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor modernizes the U.S. Army's TADS/PNVS by upgrading infrared sensors and associated electronics, providing pilots with advanced long-range, electro-optical precision target engagement and flying capabilities.
"The M-TADS/PNVS PBL has demonstrated outstanding achievements in providing our soldiers with exceptional operational capability and is an example of 'Better Buying Power' in action," said Kathy Drysdale, chief of the Avionics and Radar division for the Apache Attack Helicopter.
"The M-TADS/PNVS PBL program has been credited with improving fleet readiness, reducing average flying-hour cost and reducing the Army's long-term inventory investment."
