Elbit building mission training center

HAIFA, Israel, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- A mission training center for combat aircraft is to be established in Latin America by 2014 by Israeli company Elbit Systems Ltd.

The award from an unidentified country is worth $18.5 million, the company said. Other details of the contract weren't disclosed.

"The MTC is designed to improve the operational training of pilots by training in various mission scenarios, in varying war zones and in the relevant threat environment of each war zone -- a cutting-edge training capability which has not been available to air forces in the past," Elbit said.

The quality of operational training achieved by the MTC will enable the customer to operate some of the training sorties onboard its trainer aircraft instead of fighter jets. Training missions -- including joint training at the interoperable level -- can be conducted in pairs and foursomes even if the trainers are in different locations.
