New Mideast order for Harris radios

MELBOURNE, Fla., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- For the second time in a week, the Harris Corp. has announced a contract from the Middle East for its Falcon tactical radios.

The new award is worth $7.2 million. The earlier award was worth $25 million. In both cases Harris didn't disclose the identity of the customer.

The new order is for the company's Falcon III RF-7800S Secure Personal Radios and its Falcon II high-frequency manpack radios, which will provide the customer's security forces with high-performance line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight tactical communications.

"Harris continues to expand its leadership position in the global tactical communications market with a broad portfolio of proven, mission critical solutions," said Brendan O'Connell, president, International Business, Harris RF Communications.

The RF-7800S provides secure and reliable squad-level communications, while the RF-5800H enables warfighters to communicate in even the most challenging environments, such as mountainous terrain or dense urban areas."

The Falcon III RF-7800S is a body-worn tactical system that provides full-duplex voice and data communications at a distance of more than 1.5 miles. The radio, which allows continuous coverage in the 350-450 MHz frequency range, features dual push-to-talk capabilities and simultaneous communication for voice, data and video.

The Falcon II RF-5800H-MP provides beyond line-of-sight voice and data communications in the 1.6-60 MHz frequency band. Its features include s Third Generation-Automatic Link Establishment, integrated data link protocols and embedded GPS receivers.
