Companies team for U.N., OAU work

PRETORIA, South Africa, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- South African and Kenyan companies have teamed to provide military and technical services support for U.N., OAU and South African peacekeeping missions.

The companies are BAE Land Systems South Africa and Rongai Workshop and Transport Ltd., a Kenyan company that rebuilds trucks, engines and gearboxes.

"Ensuring stability and successful peacekeeping operations throughout the continent is an important element of what we do as a South African defense company," said Johan Steyn, managing director, Land Systems South Africa.

"We are proud to expand our role in carrying out these missions throughout the East African region."

The companies said they'll establish a regional M&TS center in the East African region to carry out work for U.N, missions and those of the Organization of African Unity.
