Enhanced Northrop C2 project moves forward

MCLEAN, Va., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- An enhanced command-and-control capability by Northrop Grumman has undergone a series of reviews and is set to enter the design stage of development.

The Air Operations Center Weapons system would give a Joint Air Force Air Component commander a core capability to plan and execute air, space and cyber operations in every operational theater.

Northrop Grumman and the Air Force conducted a baseline review in July on projected costs of the development project, development schedule and technical details. A design review was concluded at the end of last month, opening the path for an Air Force's Delta-Preliminary Design Review later this year.

"With the successful completion of these important reviews, we validated our plan to rapidly deliver capability to our warfighters well within program cost objectives," said Mike Twyman, vice president and general manager of the Defense Systems division, Northrop Grumman Information Systems.

The Air Force granted Northrop Grumman an initial $120 million contract for the AOC Weapon System modernization program to create "a secure, streamlined computing environment to increase operational effectiveness and reduce costs," the company said.
