MADRID, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- The Colombian air force has ordered a C295 tactical transport aircraft from Spain's Airbus Military for delivery early next year.

The aircraft ordered will bring the number of C295s operated by Colombia for transport and humanitarian aid missions to five.

"We are very proud of this repeat contract with Colombia, which clearly demonstrates the satisfaction of our customer with our aircraft", said Airbus Military Senior Vice President Commercial Antonio Rodriguez-Barberan. "This latest order underlines Airbus Military´s leadership in this segment after achieving more than 100 orders worldwide."

The C295 is a twin-engine turboprop. It can carry 71 troops, plus cargo. Its cruise speed is 358 miles per hour and has a range of 828 miles with a payload of more than 20,000 pounds.

The Colombian air force has operated the C295 since 2008.
