KC-390 passes preliminary design review

SAO JOSE DOS CAMPOS, Brazil, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Embraer Defense and Security of Brazil reports it has completed the preliminary design review of its KC-390 military air transport.

The review, conducted with the Brazilian air force, covered the technical characteristics of solutions adopted for structural and aircraft systems, including the definitions of the main components and their interfaces.

"We are quite pleased with the results and we are sure that the project is on the right track," said Col. Sergio Carneiro, Project KC-390 manager. "We checked all the main aspects of the aircraft's project and the KC-390 meets the Brazilian air force's expectations."

Embraer is building the aircraft for the Brazilian air force.

The next major development milestone -- the project's critical design review -- will determine whether to proceed with the manufacturing of prototype aircraft.

The KC-390 is a medium-size military aircraft that will perform aerial refueling as well as troop and equipment transport. It will have a range of about 1,600 miles with full payload.
