Smiths Detection formally names HQ

EDGEWOOD, Md., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. subsidiary of Britain's Smiths Detection group has expanded its plant in Maryland and officially designated it as its U.S. headquarters.

"We will continue to make the investments necessary to be the leading provider of advanced security solutions for both domestic and international markets," said Lance Roncalli, the U.S. managing director of Smiths Detection.

"Growing our Maryland footprint gives us the opportunity to work more closely with core customers in and around Washington, whose mission is homeland security and to aid in safeguarding citizens, troops, airports, ports, and borders around the world."

Smiths Detection said it invested more than $8.5 million in its Edgewood. Md., operation and expanded its size by more than 100,000 square feet.

Smiths Detection manufactures X-ray, baggage screening and security scanning systems for North and South American customers at the plant as well as Joint Chemical Agent Detectors for the U.S. military.
