EDGEWOOD, Md., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Smiths Detection has announced a new orders from the U.S. Army for its enhanced, lightweight M4A1 Joint Chemical Agent Detectors.
The two orders received under the U.S. Department of Defense's JCAD program are worth a total of $21 million.
Smiths Detection's JCAD is based on its LCD product line of threat detection devices that can be worn on a belt and which test the air and warn of the presence of toxic substances.
"As one of the largest chemical warfare protection projects in the world, JCAD has played an important role in Smiths Detection's history," said Mal Maginnis, president of Smiths Detection. "Our ability to deliver highly cost-efficient solutions on schedule is a key factor in the program's on-going success."
Smiths Detection said delivery of the M4A1 JCADs has already started.
