Embraer picks Meggitt fire protection

BOURNEMOUTH, England, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Britain's Meggitt Safety Systems has been selected to supply fire protection gear for Embraer KC-390 tanker/transport aircraft.

The value of the contract from the Brazilian company for Meggitt's ATA Chapter 26 Fire Protection System is more than $9 million.

Meggitt said its system provides fire detection and suppression for the aircraft's auxiliary power unit, engine pylon and power plant and smoke detection and suppression for the cargo compartment.

The KC-390 is a twin-engine, medium-lift military transport aircraft. It will have a cargo capacity of as much as 23 tons and can be rapidly configured as a fuel tanker.

Embraer said the aircraft will enter service with the Brazilian air force in 2016.
