JOHNSON CITY, N.Y., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Automated processes for the dispensing of medical prescriptions at U.S. Navy pharmacies are set to be modernized and standardized under a $49 million award.
Under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, Innovation, the maker of a pharmacy automation solution called PharmASSIST, will replace current pharmacy automation equipment; help standardized process flow for many of the naval outpatient pharmacies; increase dispensing volume; and reduce operating costs related to improved inventory management.
"Innovation is pleased that the U.S. Navy has awarded us this significant contract to upgrade their pharmacies' prescription fulfillment processes and quality control," said Innovation Chief Executive Officer Mary Reno.
"We look forward to this opportunity to assist Navy pharmacies in achieving their goal of standardized workflow and dispensing platforms.
"... Our various technologies will help Navy pharmacies reach the specific quality objectives that they require to ensure the utmost in patient safety for our service men and women."
The award is for five years.
