Community college orders small UAS

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A community college in Ohio will use small unmanned aerial vehicles in a training program for first responders, UTC Aerospace Systems announced.

Included in the order from Sinclair Community College in Dayton, will be two vehicles, a ground station for the SUAS and a payload and data link.

The SUAS will be equipped with gyro-stabilized electro-optical cameras; local suppliers will provide materials for the project, such as a composite airframe.

"Sensors and sensing systems integration is one of UTC Aerospace Systems' core technologies and it provides us a path to develop and deliver affordable unmanned air systems that will perform diverse missions," said David Krier, business development director of UTC's Sensors and Integrated Systems.

"We look forward to working with Sinclair Community College in providing an innovative solution that will support law enforcement, first responders and industries such as agriculture, natural resource management, energy exploration and infrastructure support."

UTC said the vehicles to be provided are small enough to fit into the trunk of a car.
