Astrix joins Homeland BioWatch program

RED BANK, N.J., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- The Astrix Technology Group is working with A-TEK to provide laboratory staffing support to the BioWatch Program of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The program, run by the department's Office of Health Affairs, is for continuous monitoring of air in select metropolitan areas to guard against bio-terrorism attacks. The program, which was started in 2003, facilitates coordination between federal, state and local public health communities.

A-TEK has been supported the program for eight years and the teaming will allow the companies to share and implement best practices to staff and support Homeland Security's BioWatch laboratories.

We are committed to working with our partner, A-TEK, to provide the highest level of quality and service to the Department of Homeland Security BioWatch program," said Astrix Chief Executive Officer Richard Albert.

Astrix's contract is for a one-year base period of performance with four one-year options. Its total value if all options are exercised would be more than $75 million, the company said.

Astrix is a consulting and staffing services provider to the scientific community.
