Navy SUAS getting special components

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Aerosonde Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems selected by the U.S. Navy to provide ISR are to be outfitted with special components.

UTC Aerospace Systems, a United Technologies Corp. company, said the order it received from UAS manufacturer AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems is for Cloud Cap Technology autopilots, stabilized camera payloads, ground station software components and flight management software.

The technology will used for the Aerosonde Small Unmanned Aircraft System to help provide the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data needed by the Navy and Special Operations Command.

"With the announcement of these awards, UTC Aerospace Systems looks forward to continuing our long standing working relationship with AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems and delivering high-performing systems as part of their team," said John Trezza, vice president of UTC Aerospace Systems ISR Systems business.

UTC said its Piccolo autopilot provides superior performance and reliability, and its Cloud Cap Technology TASE gimbals offer high performance in a low size, weight and power package.

The Aerosonde SUAS will be using the Piccolo II autopilot and the newly announced TASE400 stabilized camera system. The camera systems features daylight and cooled continuous zoom mid-wave infrared nighttime imagers.
