Lockheed, ARINC join in USAF contract bid

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin and ARINC are jointly bidding on a U.S. Air Force contract for a transportable air traffic control radar system.

The Air Force plans to obtain 19 ATC surveillance radar systems, which can be deployed quickly for tactical and emergency airfield operations.

The units would be used by the Air Force as well as the Air National Guard and would take less than 6 hours to set up.

"Our bid carefully balances the service's need for off-the-shelf products that reduce risk in a budget constrained environment," said Greg Larioni, vice president of radar surveillance systems at Lockheed Martin's Mission Systems and Sensors business.

"We have been designing and manufacturing transportable radars for decades with more than 100 systems deployed around the world today."

"The Lockheed Martin-ARINC team's solution integrates field-proven systems, including Lockheed Martin's TPS-79 tactical surveillance radar and Microprocessor-En Route Automated Radar Tracking System and ARINC's transportable ATC operations shelter," Lockheed added.

ARINC Inc. specializes in communications, engineering and integration solutions.
