Skydex unveils new decking surface

DENVER, June 25 (UPI) -- An improved energy-absorbing, vibration-mitigating decking surface for high-speed military boats has been launched by Colorado's Skydex Technologies.

It is called Skydex Hydro Deck and uses thermoplastic polyurethane technology to absorb impact and vibration that would normally transfer directly through the boat deck to the occupant's feet and legs, especially during high-speed maneuvering as the boat crashes through waves.

The product is an improvement on the company's proven Impact Mitigating Boat Deck used on U.S. Navy Riverine assault boats.

"Skydex is particularly proud of the improvements we've made to our boat deck product," said Skydex President Mike Buchen.

"Our mission as a company is to continue to create products that will protect our troops, whether on land or at sea. Our new Hydro Deck can withstand literally millions of impacts with virtually no degradation, unlike other competing products. It will mean greater comfort and safety, improved readiness and enhanced survivability for U.S. military personnel at sea."
