BALTIMORE, June 25 (UPI) -- Thailand, Iraq and Oman are receiving Northrop Grumman APG-68(V) 9 airborne fire control radars for use on their F-16 aircraft.
The company said the deliveries come under a $87 million Foreign Military Sales contract it received from the U.S. military.
Thailand will receive six APG-68(V) 9 systems, Iraq will receive 22 and Oman will receive 15. All are to be delivered by March 2015.
"Selection of the APG-68(V) 9 Fire Control Radar by Thailand, Oman and Iraq reaffirms its value and baseline position for all new F-16 production and F-16 avionics upgrades," said Tim Winter, Northrop Grumman's vice president for Global Systems Solutions.
"The APG-68(V) 9 radar's operational performance, affordable acquisition cost, low sustainment cost and immediate availability have led 12 nations to procure almost 750 systems so far."
Northrop said the system enables engagement of air-to-air and air-to-surface threats with enhanced accuracy and at greater ranges than legacy F-16 fire control radars.
