PARIS, June 13 (UPI) -- Denmark has joined Sweden in ordering Puma AE small unmanned aerial systems from AeroVironment of the United States.
"Allied armed forces are procuring our small unmanned aircraft systems to give small tactical teams the ability to operate more effectively and safely, without requiring support from more expensive, scarcer resources," said Roy Minson, senior vice president and general manager of Unmanned Aircraft Systems at AeroVironment.
The announcement was made by the Danish Acquisition and Logistics Organization at the Eurosatory exhibition in France.
The number of Puma AE systems ordered wasn't disclosed. However, the contract carries a value of $9.6 million.
Denmark ordered $2.4 million worth of AeroVironment's Raven B systems in 2007.
The Puma is 4.7 feet long and has a maximum takeoff weight of about 13 pounds. Its flight endurance is 2 hours and its range is 9 miles.
Sweden has also purchased the Puma as well as Wasp systems from AeroVironment to support troops deployed in Afghanistan.
