MONROVIA, Calif., June 12 (UPI) -- The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration has ordered a dozen hybrid small unmanned aircraft systems from U.S. company AeroVironment.
The order for Puma AE and Wasp air vehicles includes ground stations, training and logistics support, AeroVironment said.
The value of the fixed price order and information on the delivery schedule weren't given. AeroVironment, however, said that contract options could increase the number of systems to be provided to 30.
"AeroVironment's family of small unmanned aircraft systems gives our customers the flexibility to select the right UAS for specific mission assignments or to use two or three different small UAS for different purposes on the same mission," said Roy Minson, AeroVironment senior vice president and general manager of its Unmanned Aircraft Systems business segment.
"Numerous allied armed forces are adopting our small UAS because of their battle-proven force protection and force multiplication benefits to small tactical units."
The systems will be operated by the Swedish army.
