GAGETOWN, New Brunswick, June 11 (UPI) -- An industry team led by Textron Systems Canada Inc. has won the contract for the Canadian government's Tactical Armored Patrol Vehicle program.

The TAPV program, which is to supply operational needs for the next 25 years, is worth about $587 million, excluding government sales tax/harmonized sales tax. The program award includes a five-year in-service support contract worth an additional $102.6 million.

Under the award, Textron Systems Canada and its partners will build 500 4x4 vehicles, with an option for 100 more.

Delivery of the vehicles is expected to begin in 2014.

"We are honored that the Department of National Defense and Public Works and Government Services found our team and vehicle best suited to their needs for this important program," said Textron Systems President and Chief Executive Officer Fred Strader.

"The Textron TAPV will provide the men and women of the Canadian army a fully supportable tactical armored vehicle platform that delivers outstanding performance in the world's most challenging environments."

Textron's team members are Textron Marine and Land Systems and Rheinmetall Canada among others.
