QinetiQ providing cybersecurity

MCLEAN, Va., May 30 (UPI) -- Cybersecurity services to protect U.S, transportation systems and infrastructure are being provided by QinetiQ North America under a $4.7 million task order.

The task order by the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center is the first cybersecurity task order issued under its V-TRIPS contract. A period of performance, however, wasn't disclosed.

The Volpe Center is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Innovative Technology Administration. Working with other federal, state and local agencies, it judges, researches, develops and deploys transportation technologies and support policies.

"With this task order, we will be able to help our customer meet its mission by providing innovative services and expertise to help protect our country's critical transportation control systems," said John Sutton, executive vice president of QNA's Mission and Information Solutions business unit.

"We're honored to work with the Volpe Center as it moves forward with technologies and methodologies to define the future of the nation's transportation systems enterprise."

QNA said it will analyze potential cyberthreats and risks to critical infrastructures; evaluate cybersecurity requirements, cybersecurity tools and techniques; and develop standards for building secure systems.
