KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 16 (UPI) -- Senior executives at BAE Systems are to visit East Malaysia to expand cooperative ventures with local companies.

Areas to be visited by the trade mission are the regions of Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.

BAE already has a regional business hub in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.

The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Composites Technology Research Malaysia, Malaysian Industry Group High Technology and Masterplan Consulting. It is also sponsoring scholarships for Malaysian students to study in the United Kingdom.

It recently expanded its joint venture with Boustead Heavy Industry Corp., BHIC Bofors Asia SdnBhd, which has an industrial facility in Kota Kinabalu, to manufacture gun systems for the Royal Malaysian Navy and the region's militaries.
