ITT Exelis opens Indiana facility

CRANE, Ind., May 8 (UPI) -- ITT Exelis has opened an original-manufacturer logistics and repair center at the U.S. Navy's Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indiana.

The facility is located adjacent to the center and will provide maintenance and repair on hardware used by Navy, including electronic warfare systems, systems to counter improvised explosive devices, antennas, radar systems, acoustic sensors, and night vision equipment.

"Crane has long been a center of engineering expertise for the U.S. Navy," said Chris Bernhardt, Exelis executive vice president and president of Exelis Electronic Systems division. "We look forward to partnering with Crane by supporting, repairing and upgrading the hardware that keeps our Navy the best in the world."

The center has already been performing maintenance and repairs on the Navy's Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasures radio frequency system used on F/A-18 aircraft. The system protects the aircraft from RF-guided threats.

The official opening of the facility was held and attended by base and company officials, as well members of Congress.
